Fish (Ichthus) Cross

This stylized Fish Cross has the greek word for fish, ichthus, designed within the fish. The Greek spelling for ichthus are the first letters of the Greek words Iesous (Iota), Christos (Chi), Theou (Theta), Uios (Upsilon), and Sotor (Sigma). The English translation is IXOYE. The five Greek words stand for the English words meaning, "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior" or "Jesus Christ God's Son Savior".

The fish was a very early Christian symbol that came to be during a time when Christians were being persecuted. One person would draw half, top or bottom, of the fish in the sand and the second person would see it and draw the second half. It was kind of like a secret code so that you knew it was safe discuss your Christians beliefs with that person. This wall Cross Measures 11 inches tall. Designed, cut, sanded and hand painted by me using acrylic and oil pencil on solid white pine. Nice matte finish to protect and a hanger on the back. This is a very nice original work of inspirational Christian art. Made to order.

Pick your own scripture verse to be inscribed on the back of this cross or I will be happy to pick one for you.
